Residents of a house in the 900 block of 18th Street found a severed buffalo head in their front yard early Sunday morning -- but it wasn't Ralphie's, according to Boulder police.

Police said they checked with the University of Colorado, and the head does not belong to CU's renowned mascot, Ralphie V.

"That was a concern," Boulder police spokeswoman Kim Kobel said. "We checked with CUPD and we checked with Ralphie's handlers. She is fine."

Residents called police to report the bison head around 1 a.m. Sunday, Kobel said. They had gone out Saturday evening, and when they returned, they found the head propped on a landscaping boulder in the front yard.
