Senator wants UConn to justify tuition increase

Sen. Stephen T. Cassano wants details about the University of Connecticut’s budget to see how it justifies a 6.5 percent tuition increase for the coming school year.

Cassano, D-Manchester and co-chairman of the legislature’s Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee, says UConn doesn’t share enough budget details with lawmakers.

“There needs to be communication between leadership and members of that board — whether it’s in writing, whether it’s an occasional sit-down to talk philosophically about issues, about how we can be partnering on making higher education better, more affordable, more accessible,” Cassano says of the UConn board of trustees.
