Geoffrey Mearns has been named president of Northern Kentucky University, a position that Ferris State University President David Eisler was a finalist for.

Mearns, former provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Cleveland State University, was given the job last Tuesday after receiving approval from Northern Kentucky’s Board of Regents.

The board’s action came two days after Eisler released a statement saying he had “withdrawn his name from consideration for the position.”

He added: “At this point, I don’t know whether a decision has been named on the position at Northern Kentucky University.”
