In Search For New Rutgers President, Questions At Public Forum Reveal Wide Swath Of Desires For Candidates

The next president of Rutgers University should be a visionary leader, an excellent fundraiser, a master politician and a savvy budgeter.

And a uniter of campuses. And a supporter of unions. And a friend to students. And a woman. Or a minority. Or both.

Those were some of the suggestions offered at Rutgers-Newark Monday night at the first of three campus forums designed to help a search committee find the 20th president of the state university.

The members of the search committee listening and taking notes at the forum admitted it would be difficult to find one person to please everyone at the 58,000-student university.
