SC college to cut tuition by 43%

Converse College, one of two women-only colleges in South Carolina, will cut its tuition by 43 percent starting next year.

The Spartanburg school said Tuesday it is cutting its price tag to make college more affordable for students. College tuition rates nationwide have outstripped inflation in recent years.

Converse will charge $16,500 for undergraduate programs next year—down $12,624 from its $29,124 price tag for tuition this year. Room and board, which is separate, cost an additional $9,120 this year.
