Brenda Hellyer, San Jacinto College chancellor, has been appointed to the American Association of Community Colleges 21st Century Commission on the Future of Community College.
The mission of the commission will be to investigate the challenges and opportunities facing higher education. It is made of representatives with expertise in education, business, policy and communications.
"It is an honor to be selected to serve on this prestigious commission with peers from around the country as we work together to find ways to further help our students succeed," Hellyer said in a press release.
The commission will use the "Reclaiming the American Dream: Community Colleges and the Nation's Future" report as a guide for the examination. Several of the key areas in the report that will be looked at are completion commitment, re-imagining pathways for students, community college/K-12 collaboration for college readiness, developmental education re-design, closing skill gaps, policy and advocacy and more.
