Salem State University students and faculty have been ordered to shelter in place this afternoon after a student and a driver were stabbed aboard a shuttle bus, and the school has now cancelled classes for the rest of the day.

The order was issued by the Salem State Police Department at 12:35 p.m. in response to the possibility that the stabbing suspect had made his way back onto the campus.

“The suspect from the stabbing that occurred earlier today might have returned to campus," the school said in its posting. “The entire Salem State university campus is to shelter in place at this time. Doors should be closed and locked; refrain going near windows until further notice."
