Rutgers unveils new long-term plan to take university to 'new levels'

After 18 months of meetings, debate and public arguments, Rutgers University has unveiled an ambitious new long-term plan designed to make the school one of the top research universities in the nation.

The 59-page strategic plan -- titled "Our Moment: A Strategic Plan for the New Rutgers" -- will serve as a blueprint for the state university over the next five years as it tries to improve everything from its national rankings to the happiness of undergraduates on its campuses, said Rutgers President Robert Barchi.

"We can't really make the progress we want without a plan -- understanding where we are and where we're going," Barchi said.
