A key panel of Rhode Island state lawmakers is set to examine the state's investment in public higher education.
The House Finance Committee is scheduled on Thursday to review the higher education spending in Gov. Lincoln Chafee's proposed state budget.
Chafee's $8.2 billion budget proposal calls for $8 million in additional higher education funding to avoid tuition increases at the state's colleges and university.
Lawmakers are expected to hear from higher education leaders about the proposal.
