R.I. Board Of Governors Rejects 4 Contracts

A sharply divided Board of Governors for Higher Education Monday night rejected four contracts that would have given compounded 3-percent raises to faculty at the University of Rhode Island and to members of three other unions.

The roll call votes ran 7 to 5 against the faculty contract and two other agreements with professional staff associations at Rhode Island College and the Cormmunity College of Rhode Island. An agreement with URI's graduate student assistants failed on a tie vote, 6 to 6.
