Rapid Insight Inc. has released a new blog series aimed at helping higher education institutions expand their analytic strength by using data they already have on-hand. The series is titled “Creating Variables” and explains the value of creating new variables from existing information to analyze everything from enrollment to retention. Some examples that have been given so far include things like creating ‘distance from campus’ by using student and applicant zip codes, and creating ‘days between application date and term start’. These are simple variables which can be created using information that all institutions already possess.
