Powers Wants Medical School And Other Kinds Of Healing

William Powers Jr., president of the University of Texas, wants a medical school.

He wants "everyone in the UT family" to request the fledgling Longhorn Network from cable companies and other communication providers.

He wants the school's governing board to defend faculty members against charges that they are "dodgers" and "coasters."

And perhaps more than anything, he wants critics and supporters alike to "heal our divided house" and reaffirm the ability of a major research university to produce cultivated minds and thereby a better world.
