Local and national law enforcement agencies spent Sunday searching for the man they say is responsible for the deadliest shooting in the city of Auburn’s history.
Desmonte D. Leonard, 22, of Montgomery is being sought after police say he opened fire at University Heights apartments off West Longleaf Drive at about 10 p.m. Saturday. The shooting left three men dead, including two former Auburn University football players, and three others wounded.
During a press conference Sunday afternoon, Auburn Police Chief Tommy Dawson said the shooting took place when a fight broke out during a party at the apartment complex.
When police responded to the call, they found former Auburn offensive lineman Ed Christian, 20, dead on a sidewalk. Former Auburn fullback Ladarious Phillips and Demario Pitts, both 20, suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to East Alabama Medical Center, where they were later pronounced dead.
