Police Investigate After Hacker Steals Email Addresses, Passwords From Michigan State Website

An online hacker claims he or she compromised Michigan State University's server and obtained 1,500 names, email addresses, passwords, usernames and mailing addresses. Ehackingnews.com reports the anonymous person, referring to himself or herself as DARINWARE, announced the hacking on Twitter, then posted hacked information online. MSU spokesperson Kent Cassella said one particular website was breached, a site belonging to the university's College of Arts and Letters. He said the hacker stole information limited to email addresses and encrypted passwords. "MSU IT Services is working with the owners of the website, which has been taken down, to ensure the site is secure," Cassella said. "IT Services also is reaching out to those whose account information was copied."
