Phoenix pushes higher education for downtown

The profile of higher education in downtown Phoenix has increased significantly in the past month. And city leaders want the trend to continue.

"No city in the country has done more to partner with higher education than the city of Phoenix," said Mayor Greg Stanton. "We have no choice but to increase state college attainment of the populace of our community if we're going to compete in this increasingly competitive global environment."

There have been several significant developments in higher education downtown since March. The Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University officially kicked off its campaign to build its new building downtown. Officials at the University of Arizona Eller College of Management announced they were moving their Valley campus from Scottsdale to downtown Phoenix.
