Passaic County Community College has been awarded a federal grant of nearly $9 million to take the lead in administering a multi-state job training program, officials said.

The money is part of $15.6 million in job-training grants awarded to New Jersey schools, Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr., D-Paterson, said in a statement.

In all, the U.S. Department of Labor announced Wednesday that it had awarded $474.5 million in training grants to 183 colleges and universities around the country.

The money is being awarded through the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training grant program, a multiyear, nearly $2 billion initiative to expand targeted training programs for unemployed workers, especially those whose jobs have been affected by foreign trade, the Labor Department said.
