As a sign the deadline for state budget negotiations is drawing close, the Senate Appropriations Committee on Wednesday approved funding bills to provide a combined $547 million to Penn State, Pitt, Temple, Lincoln and University of Pennsylvania for 2013-14.
That reflects a combined $4.5 million increase above the funding levels that four of the schools received this year.
Gov. Tom Corbett's and the House-passed budgets proposed no increases in funding for any of these schools.
Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Jake Corman, R-Centre County, said he expects the increases to be supported by the House Republican and Corbett.
