Old Dominion U Professor Denied Tenure Alleges Discrimination

Offering a glimpse at dissension in the ranks of academia, an Old Dominion University professor has filed a racial discrimination lawsuit against the school, alleging that administrators derailed her career because she is white.

Patricia Hentosh, a professor in the School of Medical Laboratory and Radiation Sciences, alleges that she was denied tenure and told she would have to leave ODU at the end of the 2012-13 academic year as retaliation for her complaints against an Asian American colleague.

Her lawsuit, filed last month in U.S. District Court in Norfolk, seeks unspecified monetary damages and an injunction requiring ODU to either grant her tenure or keep her on the payroll for three more years and reopen the tenure evaluation process.

None of the parties in the lawsuit would comment for this report. ODU has not yet filed its response in court.
