Northwest Mississippi Community College praised for online program

Northwest Mississippi Community College is ranked 30th out of the 50 Best Online Universities and Community Colleges, according to AccreditedOnlineColleges.org, a reference website.

Northwest was the only Mississippi school featured on the list.

The school began offering online classes in spring 1999 to service adults and other students who couldn’t attend classes on campus. It began with six courses that were taken by 43 students. The program has grown to include more than 300 courses that are taken by more than 2,500 students. Northwest is currently part of the Mississippi Virtual Community College System, which gives students more online courses between several colleges and universities in the state.

Northwest’s offerings include courses in: accountancy, business administration, business and computer teacher education, office administration, criminal justice, general college, psychology, social work, outdoor recreation and management, health care data technology, microcomputer technology and office systems technology.
