Nebraska Legislature funds construction of nursing college

Funding for a College of Nursing building in Lincoln is a go.

The Legislature on Tuesday took on Gov. Dave Heineman's veto of three capital construction projects -- the new nursing college building, state Capitol improvements and historical museum renovations -- and succeeded in keeping the funds included in the bill (LB198) in the state budget.

The Legislature also restored funding of the majority of general fund dollars in four budget bills passed by the Legislature.

Sen. John Harms of Scottsbluff said it was critical the nursing college building be moved from leased space at 12th and O streets in downtown Lincoln. It's not a safe environment, he said.
