N.D. higher education officials to revisit tuition

The state Board of Higher Education might put tuition back on the drawing board.

The board approved a plan earlier this month allows colleges the option of increasing tuition at various rates, from 2.13 percent at Lake Region State College to 6.63 percent at Williston State.

 Board President Duaine Espegard believes the group should revisit another option that lowers the amount of money students would have to pay.

The state Legislature approved a $900 million higher education budget, but it does not cover nearly $32 million for inflation. Those costs could be covered under the approved plan if colleges max out their tuition limits.
