Mich. State Univ. President Decries Racist Incidents On Campus; Police Investigating

Michigan State University President Lou Anna K. Simon condemned a string of racial incidents that have erupted on campus and will be addressed on Tuesday evening at a meeting of several student and community organizations.

Simon sent a letter to all students addressing the incidents and noted that MSU police have been asked to investigate.

"Such behavior is not representative of MSU's values nor should it be tolerated," she said in the letter. "… In my many years at MSU, this rash of incidents at various parts of the campus in such a short timeframe is unmatched, is extraordinarily troubling and creates a legitimate concern that all of us must address."

The incidents began last month when a student cleaning one of the university's chemistry labs found a black doll hanging from a makeshift noose of green beads.
