The woman who attracted national headlines for registering a blood-alcohol level more than four times the legal limit to drive after an arrest at a campus football game caused University of Iowa President Sally Mason frustration and concern, Mason said Friday.
Samantha Lynne Goudie, 22, registered a blood-alcohol content of 0.341 and was arrested for public intoxication Saturday at Kinnick Stadium before Iowa’s 30-27 loss to Northern Illinois.
The Twitter account linked to Goudie — @Vodka_samm — led to the nickname Vodka Sam in national coverage that included the New York Post labeling her “The World’s Drunkest College Student.” The sports news and commentary website Deadspin mocked Goudie and her Twitter posts following the game.
“It’s sad that one student and one student’s behavior shapes the image of 30,000 other students,” Mason said in an interview with The Des Moines Register. “I feel very, very concerned about the young student that had that level of alcohol in her blood. I’m very concerned for her health, safety and well-being. There’s no doubt that there’s a problem there.”
