Macedonian professors visit Mercer County Community College as it tries to expand global reach

A pair of professors from the Republic of Macedonia gave local college students a lesson on their young nation’s society and economy this month as part of a budding exchange program that sent two Mercer County Community College teachers to their university earlier this year.

On one afternoon the two visitors, Lidija Simoncheska and Ivanak Nestoroska, participated in a panel discussion of “Lean In,” the best-seller by Facebook CEO Sheryl Sandberg that urges women to learn assertiveness in the workplace.

One student asked them about Macedonia’s tradition of socialism and its policy of giving women nine months of maternity leave, and asked what advice they would give the U.S. related to the rights of women.
