The University of Texas said today that it has allocated $1 million from Longhorn Network revenues to create an endowed chair in Latin American art history and criticism. Professor Andrea Giunta in the College of Fine Arts has been appointed to the chair.
This is the first academic initiative funded by proceeds from the network, according to a university news release. The network is operated by ESPN under a 20-year, $300 million agreement with UT and IMG College, a company that handles marketing and licensing.
When the agreement was announced last year, officials said $1 million chairs in physics and philosophy would be established initially. Plans still call for those chairs, as well as chairs in math, African and African Diaspora Studies, and the Texas Program in Sports and Media.
