Fresh after its designation as an official branch campus, the Lone Star College-University Park is making some changes.
Two buildings at State Highway 249 and Louetta Road will be imploded on Sept. 18 to make way for usable green space on the campus.
Campus leaders determined that imploding the buildings would be more economical than a traditional wrecking ball demolition.
During an implosion, small explosives are detonated in strategic spots to cause a building to collapse inwardly. The implosion itself takes about 15 seconds, and then is followed by four to six weeks of cleanup.
