Leath: College Must Be Affordable

Iowa State University President Steven Leath on Thursday told a U.S. Senate committee that a college education should be accessible to anyone who wants to pursue it.

“And being accessible means being affordable without being burdened by an unmanageable debt load, which unfortunately is the case for many today,” Leath told the Senate committee.

In Iowa, college graduates leave school with an average of about $30,000 in debt, the third-highest figure in the nation.
