Lawsuit: Lone Star College voting system hurts minorities

A lawsuit filed Tuesday accuses the Lone Star College System of violating minority voters' rights by having at-large elections that limit their representation.

The federal suit was filed by Houston attorney Chad Dunn on behalf of Doris J. Hubbard and Dr. Jesus Mayor, who live within the community college system's voting area. Hubbard, who is black, lives in Acres Homes, and Mayor, a Hispanic, lives in the Aldine area.

"Both are involved in the politics of the community," Dunn said. "They've found the governing board of Lone Star College not to be responsive to the interests of their community."
