Lane College National Alumni Association President LaSimba Gray stepped down from his position Tuesday, citing the need for a change in alumni leadership to work with the school’s administration in light of the death of college President Wesley McClure last week.
“There needs to be a strong collaboration between the alumni and administration,” Gray said in a telephone interview with The Jackson Sun on Wednesday. “I want to see Lane saved, and there needs to be new leadership to bring about new collaboration.”
Gray said he will continue to be a strong supporter of his alma mater.
Gerald Williams, Lane College class of 1971, will serve the remaining 30 months of Gray’s term. Gray was just re-elected during the National Alumni Association’s meeting held in July in Indianapolis.
