Kalamazoo Valley Community College is changing the name of its Michigan Technology Education Center (M-TEC) facility to the Kalamazoo Valley Groves Center.
The 70,000 sq. foot facility, located at 7107 Elm Valley Drive, is more than just a training center, said President Marilyn Schlack, and its name should reflect that. KVCC implemented a new branding campaign three years ago, but the M-TEC website has not yet been incorporated into the uniform look other KVCC programs now have.
“It became evident as the marketing team began to redesign the website for our M-TEC that something was lacking not only in how the M-TEC is marketed but in its overall image. We need to truly tell the story of the types of services and training that is provided at the college’s facility. We need to find a way to differentiate our M-TEC from the seventeen other M-TECs across the state,” read the proposal, which was approved by trustees on Tuesday.
KVCC received a $5 million grant from the state more than a decade ago to create the training center, which opened in 2001. The community’s private sector raised another $6 million to complete the $11 million facility.
