Killing community college auditing unit would be a mistake

It would be irresponsible for the North Carolina General Assembly to kill the unit that audits community college enrollment figures to ensure that the taxpayers are getting what they pay for. But the safeguard against fraud is in danger of getting the ax.

The Raleigh News & Observer reported last week that state lawmakers narrowly rejected a House budget provision that would have shut down the auditing unit on July 1.
