Kellogg Community College is one of just two two-year colleges in Michigan to be listed on the 2013 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, the highest honor a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service learning, and civic engagement.

It was the first time KCC has made the list, a KCC spokesman said.

"KCC is dedicated to giving back to our community and over the last few years has established a service learning program to provide an avenue for our students to give back and become leaders in our community," said Kate DeGraaf, KCC's service learning manager, in a statement. "It is an honor to receive this award and to be able to celebrate the huge success of our students."

In Michigan, Kalamazoo College received the highest ranking, being named one of just 14 Presidential Award Finalists. In all, 690 U.S. schools were named to the honor roll, which is administered by the federal Corporation for National & Community Service.
