Bethany Cordell, a spokesperson for Kansas State, said the athletic department worked with the student advisory board to come up with good marketing tools earlier this year. “Food was overwhelmingly the most popular response and we threw out bacon and people were all over it,” she said.
The bacon will be cooked at the dining facilities near the gym and distributed at the stadium in paper boats. Cordell said they’ve ordered 300 pounds of bacon strips, which will enable them to give 1,000 fans five strips each.
The idea, she said, is that once students are in the door, they’ll want to come back for another game.
Kansas State opens its season against Tennessee State on Friday.
