Kalamazoo College is increasing tuition and room and board by 4.75 percent for the 2012-13 year, bringing the yearly cost to $45,984.
This is the third consecutive year the private college has increased tuition by between 4 and 5 percent. Increases in the previous three years ranged from 5.5 to 6.5 percent.
“These decisions balance increases in the cost of providing an undergraduate education as excellent as ours with the responsibility to make that education affordable," said a letter sent to students and faculty members Tuesday by President Eileen B. Wilson-Oyelaran. "With this delicate balance in mind, and factoring our third year of cost cutting from our annual budget (5 percent or $2.8 million), our comprehensive fee increase for 2012-13 is as low as we can make it."
