Judge to rule within weeks on bid to dismiss Corbett suit over Penn State sanctions

A federal judge said Monday she would decide within weeks whether to dismiss Gov. Tom Corbett's lawsuit alleging NCAA sanctions against Penn State over the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal violate antitrust laws.

U.S. District Judge Yvette Kane must determine whether Corbett has laid out a credible claim that the National Collegiate Athletic Association's unprecedented penalties against the university make the worlds of college football and higher education less economically competitive.

Also before the judge is whether Corbett, who has been a vocal critic of Penn State's decision to accept a $60 million fine, reduction in scholarships and four-year ban from football bowl games, has a legal right to sue the NCAA.
