Judge Denies Request To Keep Steger In Va. Tech Suits

Special Justice William Alexander this morning denied a lawyer's request to reconsider the dismissal of Virginia Tech President Charles Steger from two $10 million wrongful death lawsuits stemming from the April 16, 2007, shootings on the school's campus.

Alexander, who had issued a written ruling releasing Steger as a defendant last month, did not change his mind as the result of a telephone hearing on the reconsideration request this morning in Franklin County.

At Alexander's urging, Tech's lawyers and the plaintiffs' attorney, Bob Hall, agreed today to resume settlement talks that had previously come to a stalemate.
