Jim James has been named by Dr. Steve Wrigley, executive vice chancellor of Administration for the University System of Georgia, as the new vice chancellor for Real Estate and Facilities for the System. James takes up this new position on April 1, 2013 and replaces Lee Richey, who has served as the interim vice chancellor since Sept. 2012.
“We conducted a national search and are delighted to have someone of Jim’s experience to provide leadership for the University System as we review how we currently use and design buildings,” said Wrigley.
In his new position with the USG, James will be responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership in all areas of facilities management, including campus master planning, project development, real estate transactions, design and construction, facilities operations, and environmental health and safety.
He has more than 30 years of experience in the management of large capital projects and in architectural practice, including executive leadership, department management, determination of project deliverables and the selection of consultants.
Currently James is assistant vice president for Facilities Planning, Design and Construction at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), a position he has held since May 2011.
James has worked for UAB since 1989. In addition to his current position, James was executive director of Planning and Design, executive director of Planning – Facilities, director of Campus Planning and assistant director of Campus Planning.
