Ivy Tech Community College is planning to purchase a Lafayette mobile home park to expand its local campus as well as to lease land for a new YMCA facility.
Later this month, Ivy Tech's state trustees will be asked to approve the $5.8 million purchase of the Point East Mobile Home Community, which has approximately 21 acres.
Ivy Tech has eyed the land for about 10 years as a solution to its cramped classrooms and lack of lab space due to a dramatic increase in enrollment.
Lafayette Chancellor David Bathe said the agreement would signal a new era for the 50-acre campus off Creasy Lane that opened in 2001. A purchase could be complete by this summer.
