Iowa Regents To Approve 3.75% Tuition Bump

Regents leaders said they intend to pass a proposed 3.75 percent tuition increase in December, then furiously lobby lawmakers next year for a requested funding increase.

Last month, the Iowa Board of Regents asked for $41.1 million in additional state dollars, noting public funds for universities have decreased 24 percent the past three years.

Cuts in programs and staffing could result if state funding falls short of the request, board members said Thursday.

“It could cause some problems if the state Legislature doesn’t honor that,” said Regents President Craig Lang of Brooklyn.
