An Indoor Groundbreaking For Austin Community College’s Elgin Campus

A forecast of stormy weather didn’t keep groundbreaking ceremonies for Austin Community College’s Elgin campus from proceeding today — but it did force the festivities indoors.

Officials and community members gathered at the Stardust Ballroom of the Elgin SPJST, a Slavonic benevolent society. They even brought along some dirt carted over from the campus site, at U.S. 290 and County Line Road, for the ceremonial dipping of shovels.

Voters in the Elgin school district opted to join the ACC taxing district last year. The 98-acre campus is scheduled to open in August 2013.
