Indiana University today announced it’s joining a coalition opposing the state’s proposed constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage.
The state’s largest university is the first college or university to sign up with Freedom Indiana. The bipartisan coalition was launched in August by local and national gay-rights groups and Indiana-based companies Eli Lilly & Co. and Cummins.
Their goal next year is to defeat the proposed amendment, which would add Indiana’s current statutory ban on gay marriage to the state constitution. The amendment also would ban civil unions and similar arrangements.
