With Hurricane Irene threatening New Jersey, Seton Hall University will cancel this weekend's New Student Convocation ceremony and ask students to reschedule their plans to move into the campus residence halls, school officials said today.

Administrators at the South Orange university want students to move into their dorms no later than 2 p.m. Saturday -- or wait until Monday -- to avoid the predicted severe weather, according to a statement released today.

All university events scheduled for Sunday, including the convocation ceremony to welcome new students, are canceled, school officials said. However, Seton Hall classes are still slated to begin Monday.

Students were told to monitor Seton Hall's website for additional schedule changes.
