Greg Wiseman found himself out of work for the first time in more than three decades in March 2011 when he was laid off from Steelcase.
But thanks to the education he’s received at Grand Rapids Community College’s Leslie E. Tassell M-TEC workforce training center, Wiseman is just a few months away from earning a certificate in the center’s Construction Trades program.
It’s a designation that Wiseman says will bring him one step closer to becoming a licensed builder and starting his own remodeling business.
“I can make a living again,” said Wiseman, 58, of Algoma Township.
It’s these kinds of stories that GRCC is highlighting this week as it celebrates the 10-year anniversary of its M-TEC building, where thousands of students regularly receive training in fields ranging from automotive repair and construction to welding and manufacturing.
