Hope College President James E. Bultman will remain its leader for at least one more academic year after a search committee passed on recommending a successor last week.
Bultman, who has served as Hope's president since 1999, was asked by its Board of Trustees on Friday to extend his tenure after deciding to continue searching for a replacement.
Bultman had planned on retiring on June 30 this year after announcing his retirement one year ago this weekend, college spokesman Tom Renner said. The hunt for a successor began shortly after that news, Renner said.
College leaders postponed an announcement about Bultman's extended stay until Sunday evening so the news would not detract from graduation proceedings, Renner said.
