Higher Ed Cuts in Louisiana Short-Sighted (Opinion)

Universities within the University of Louisiana System have presented their plans on how they will cut 5 percent of their budgets.

On the surface, 5 percent may not seem critical. It might even seem manageable.

But the foundation of higher education in Louisiana is eroding slowly with a constant drip of midyear budget cuts.

Nevermind that lawmakers tell us that the cuts could have been much worse, that Gov. Bobby Jindal worked closely with legislators to cut the state budget by more than $200 million with as little pain as possible.
