HFCC officials call millage's approval critical to college's future

Henry Ford Community College is asking residents to extend a desperately-needed millage — and add a bit more to the pot — when they go to the polls.

The college is asking voters to pass two issues. The first will continue 3 mills of taxes for operations for 10 years, and the second would add 1 mill for five years. The additional millage would restore just a fraction of the money the college lost in state funding and local property tax revenue in the last five years, said college President Stan Jensen.

“Without the 4 mills, which represents a substantial portion of our budget, HFCC may close,” according to election information mailed to voters.
