After a national search, University of Connecticut President Susan Herbst Monday appointed Mun Y. Choi as the provost and executive vice president of the school.
Choi, who has served as interim provost since June when former Provost Peter Nicholls stepped down from the job, will earn $370,000.
"This is truly an exciting time for the University of Connecticut," Choi said in a brief interview late Monday afternoon. "We have strong support, excellent leadership and an opportunity to continue our rise as a top public research university."
Choi, 48, joined UConn in 2008 as dean of engineering and as a professor of mechanical engineering.
