Group sues Penn. State System of Higher Education claiming sex discrimination in health policies

The National Women's Law Center says policies that exclude pregnancy coverage from the health insurance benefits offered to dependent children of employees amount to sexual discrimination.

So the group Tuesday filed a complaint against Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education and four other public and private institutions. The suit against the State System, which has 14 state-owned universities across Pennsylvania and 12,150 professional and support staff, is apparently the first to challenge dependent pregnancy coverage exclusions under Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act.
