Job training is a crucial part of Grand Rapids Community College’s mission, administrators say.
So GRCC President Steven Ender is pleased that President Barack Obama is proposing an $8 billion injection for community colleges to train up to 2 million people for jobs in high-growth fields.
The funding could provide resources for low-income residents who can’t afford to pay for classes and help administrators create new job-training programs, he said.
“I don’t see how anyone in the community college world could quibble with the concept,” Ender said. “As no worker left behind has dried up, so has the ability for people to come back and retrain.”
