In an attempt to help fund repairs for its aging campus, Grand Rapids Community College will now begin charging full-time students a $100 per-semester facilities fee.
The fee, along with $2.50 per-credit-hour tuition increase implemented to help close a $1.2 million budget deficit, was approved Monday by GRCC’s board of trustees by a 6-1 vote.
The move comes just weeks after voters shot down a hefty tax hike proposal.
Trustee Richard Stewart abstained from the vote, and declined to explain why after the meeting.
